I am a manager at Fraser Richmond Soil & Fibre (a division of Harvest Power) in Richmond, British Columbia.  I have been with the company for only a few months and I already feel like I’ve won a gold medal.  Our team is one of the best groups with which I have ever worked.  The collective excitement and enthusiasm is like no other team I have known.  Everyone looks forward to coming to work each day and is excited about the future of our company and the direction it is headed.

As an engineer, I look forward to building our high solids anaerobic digester system.  Our company is doing something important for the region: our facility takes in source-separated urban organics like household food scraps, yard trimmings, paper fibres and clean wood waste, and recycles them in order to help the region achieve its Zero Waste Challenge targets.  From these materials we create compost and renewable energy.

I am proud that our compost facility has been able to serve the region by recycling its organic materials since 1993.  We plan to continue this trend in the coming years in partnership with Metro Vancouver and its member municipalities.

I would never have imagined that receiving household food scraps and yard trimmings would be this exciting – for me it’s like watching Olympic heroes achieve their goals.   What we also have in common with Olympics is that we work as a team, and hope to inspire all of us to do something that makes not only the Harvest Power team, but ALL of us winners in the end.
